I am an 8th grade math teacher who believes that mathematics and technology go hand in hand. I started teaching 8th grade math at Creekside Middle School in Zeeland, MI in the fall of 1998. I am lucky to say, I am still teaching in the same classroom I started in back in '98. It is an amazing school, with great kids, a fabulous staff and many resources. Being a 1:1 school, starting with iPads and now having Chromebooks, has changed my classroom. I have taught in a flipped environment since 2011-12. I started with having students just read and do explorations outside of class to prepare for more in-depth learning and collaboration in class. In the fall of 2012 I added video and created iBooks to deliver the content. With switching to Chromebooks, the iBooks could no longer be used, but the videos and ways of the flipped classroom have stuck around.

Outside of the classroom, I am married to a retired high school guidance counselor who worked in the same district, and we have two daughters. They keep me busy with their activities. Our oldest plays basketball at Hope College in Holland, MI and our youngest is a 3-sport athlete still in high school. I coach volleyball and basketball at the middle school that I teach at so we love being with them on the field and in the gym too! Gardening and going on long walks with our chocolate lab are things that keep this teacher brain calm!
